"Shaakuntalam" is an upcoming Telugu language  movie written directed by Gunasekhar and produced by Neelima Gun  distributed by Sri Venkateswara Creations . The film stars Samantha Akkineni in the titular role and Dev Mohan as Dushyanta,the king of Puru dynasty along with  Mohan , Aditi Balan, and Mohan Babu in pivotal roles.

The movie is based on the famous Sanskrit play "Abhignyana Shaakuntalam" written bya Kalidas, which tells the story of Shakuntala, a young woman who falls in love with King Dushyanta and they both get married. However, due to certain circumstances, Shakuntala is forced to leave the palace and live in a forest. The story follows her journey as she navigates through various challenges and obstacles to reunite with her husband and reclaim her rightful place in the kingdom.

Gunasekhar, the director of "Shakuntalam," is known for his grand and visually stunning films such as "Rudhramadevi" and "Anushka." With "Shakuntalam," he promises to deliver another epic tale that will transport audiences to a different world and time.

Samantha Akkineni, who plays the lead character of Shakuntala, has already garnered a lot of attention for her performance in the movie. Fans are eagerly waiting to see her portrayal of the iconic character and are expecting her to deliver a memorable performanc

   The music for          "Shakuntalam" is composed by Mani Sharma, who is known for his soulful and melodious tunes. The cinematography is done by one of the best Indian cinematographers, Thirru, who has worked on several well-known projects.

Shaakuntalam was scheduled to be released theatrically on 4 November 2022 alongside dubbed versions in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada but was later postponed due to the film being chosen to be converted into 3D format.The creators of Shaakuntalam announced that the film will not hit the screens on February 17 . On 10 February 2023, a new release date was announced as 14 April 2023.
